Fishin' For Vision was started by Dylan Klein when he was 15 years old. Dylan has Cone dystrophy which at this time has no cure. Instead of stressing about why his vision would not get better he decided to focus on ways to help others with vision issues. He will be able to accomplish his goal by supporting Florida Kidsight foundation, providing scholarships and helping others with visual needs.
CHILDREN & VISION
- Young children often compensate for vision problems so well that no one notices until their first screening in primary grade.
- Some common vision-robbing conditions are unable to be effectively treated if waiting until those first screenings.
- If conditions are not found early, and treated, it can lead to poor academic performance, low self-esteem, limited social and sports involvement and behavioral problems.
- 7 out of 10 juvenile delinquents have an undiagnosed vision problem.
- If screened early, typically prior to age 6, visual improvement is a possibility.
Florida Kid Sight is in partnership with the Lions of Florida & the Bahamas
- Lions club and volunteers go into communities and screen children 6 months to 6 years.
- Screenings are free and as simple as taking a child’s picture.
- Results of screenings will be sent to Florida Kid Sight, reviewed and information sent to the family.
